Drop Off Your Brush For Free This Week

Residents can bring wood debris, leaves and other brush to the transfer station this week free of charge.

As North Kingstown residents clean their yards after Irene, many now wonder what to do with the oodles leaves, branches and other debris left behind from Sunday's storm.

Bring any brush from the storm to North Kingstown's transfer station on Devils Foot Road or the landfill on Hamilton Allenton for free this week; all you need is proof of residency.

The transfer station will be open every day from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this week until Saturday. Curbside pickup of brush is not available. For employees at the transfer station, the volume of residents flocking in, towing debris, is immense.

"I got here at 7:30 this morning to open and there was already a line of people," said transfer station employee Stephanie Travers.

It's been non-stop at the station, Travers adds. By Tuesday afternoon, the station had seen "about $3,000 in brush" dropped off.

Travers adds that things are often busiest when the station first opens, suggesting residents try to come later in the morning. She anticipates Saturday will be the busiest day yet.

North Kingstown - the highest tax "self service government" in Rhode Island. The Dolan-NKGOP gift that keeps giving! They gave us the Halley buyout, high taxes, and now... SELF SERVICE!!!!

Many towns in RI have CURBSIDE CITY BRUSH PICK-UP . Why not NK? Because of the "North Kingstown Tax-N-Steal Republicans... the party of HALLEY" !

Here is a town by town list of storm debris pickup. Who wants to count the "self service" towns? Yup, Dolan and her NKGOP party of Halley the lobster gorfer, sure specialize in "SELF SERVICE". Nice system... THEY have your wallet, YOU pickup your own storm debris!

I went to the dump yesterday and cars and trucks with debris were being put on the scales. Why do they need to be weighed if it's free?

Dont forget Embry in this. He, Stamm and others support the Golf Course as an "enterprise entity" yet every budget they give it moeny. If it is truley a profit center, shouldnt it be self sustaining and fund itself through revenue? Stamm, Dolan, Bestwick and Hueston need to be replaced.

Deb, I think there is some arrangement with the state in terms of how much trash vs. how much recycling NK collects that has to do with state payments to NK. The higher the recycling to trash rate, the more money NK gets. Also, probably reducing the amount of trash total helps. Not sure of the details.

As to the golf course, I am not a golf fan, but it provides a revenue stream to the town. As I understand it from various budget articles, the revenue exceeds the maintenance and other costs the town forks out. I suppose it could be a self-run entity as john boscardin suggests, but why add another layer of bureaucracy and non-transparency?
