Ditch the Car, Grab the Bike for Wickford Junction Grand Opening

The West Bay Family YMCA is organizing a group bike ride to the grand opening of Wickford Junction.

If you're planning to attend but don't want to go alone, we may have just the answers. Dust off your bike and helmet and join a group ride down to the station.

The is organizing a group bike ride to the train station on Monday, April 23. The group ride will help support the s biking and walking project plan – which looks to improve connectivity in town using biking and walking paths.

“A bike ride to a train station is our way to show the connectivity,” said Doug MacLean of the North Kingstown Planning Department.

The ride will start at k, following Ten Rod Road and ending at . According to MacLean, this stretch of Ten Rod Road (i.e. Route 102) has been identified by the Healthy Places by Design initiative as an optimal place to create a bike shoulder due to the road’s width.

The ride starts at Wilson Park at 10:15 a.m. (Look for the Y On The Move van.) The route is approximately 2.8 miles each way.

  • 10:15 a.m.   meet at Wilson Park
  • 10:30 a.m.   group ride leaves Wilson Park
  • 11 a.m.          station tour, electric car demonstration and refreshments
  • 11:30 a.m.   speaking program
  • 12:45 p.m.   ceremonial train leaves Wickford Junction for Providence

Bring your bike and water. Helmet is required.
