UPDATED: Barrington Dad Reported Missing in NK

Ted Crane of Barrington was last seen Thursday morning after his car broke down in North Kingstown, according to friends and neighbors.

A Barrington father of three children remains missing since yesterday morning, June 21, after his car reportedly broke down in North Kingstown, according to friends and neighbors.

Ted Crane, of 20 Clarke Rd. in Barrington, reportedly was last seen by a North Kingstown highway maintenance person a mid-morning Thursday, according to the friends. The time of that sighting was initially reported as around 9:37 a.m.

However, another sighting of Crane's green Mini-Cooper by a family friend reportedly took place at 9:40 a.m. near T.F. Green Airport in Warwick.

He is well-known in Barrington for that car, the friend said. Maybe other people saw it and they can contact the police, the friend said.

The car's hood was up and Crane appeared to be checking the oil, according to the friend who spotted the car in Warwick.

Crane's car, therefore, is believed to have broken down on Route 403 in North Kingstown at least 20 minutes later, when he contacted his wife, Peg. He apparently managed to drive to within about two miles of where he works in North Kingstown when his car finally failed.

Reportedly, Crane left his cell phone in the car and he did not contact his family a second time.

Crane reportedly was wearing a rust-colored shirt and tan khaki pants, according to a friend.

North Kingstown police reportedly are using dogs to search the area. His wife and another close family friend are helping police in the search, a neighbor said.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, call the North Kingstown Police Department at 294-3311.

According to a friend, his car was found near the Davisville Road exit. I'm guessing somewhere in the area of the transfer station.

I live just off of Davisville Road and Rte. 403 in NK, and coincidentally, I was out walking and running (approx. 9-10:30 am) all around the Davisville and School Street area (this area abuts Rte. 403) at the very same time as this gentleman went missing yesterday morning. I did not pass anyone who looked like Mr. Crane in my travels. However, if I can help in any, please let me know. (401) 480-8878 or usmc71731@verizon.net. Murrie Hubbard.
