5 Things: Pirates, Animal Photo Contest & More
Five things to know for Aug. 4.
1. The pirates are returning to Smith's Castle this weekend. PIRATES! Against All Flags kicks off today. Free Men of the Sea (a pirate reenactment group) will be on hand, as well as exhibits and more. Runs every Saturday at the Castle from now until the end of August from noon to 4 p.m. Admission's $8 for adults, $3 for kids.
2. Get your four-legged friends to say "cheese!" because Allie's Tack & Feed is holding its first photo contest. Starting this month, bring in a 4 by 6-inch photo of your favorite animal and enter to win a $100 gift card. Learn more here.
3. During the month of August, JW Graham & Yes! Gallery will be rewarding their customers for donating to the North Kingstown Food Pantry. Through their "Feed the Pantry" fundraiser, those who donate $10 to the pantry will get a 10 percent off coupon. A donation of $20 will get you a 20 percent off coupon and 30 percent off for a $30 donation. Learn more here.
4. Four North Kingstown High School students are opening the Newport Jazz Festival today, along with the RI All-State Jazz Ensemble. Good luck to Andrew Nicastro, Paul Spetrini, Andrew Wynsen and Peter Craig from NK!
5. Today: mostly sunny with highs near 87. Tonight: partly cloudy with lows around 71. Tomorrow: a chance of showers and thunderstorms with otherwise partly sunny skies and highs near 82.
