Entries will be accepted through Jan. 11, 2013 for the fourth annual Richard B. Dunne Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund Photography Contest, proceeds from which benefit North Kingstown High School graduates.
Open to amateur shutterbugs of all ages, the contest features separate divisions for students and adults. Prizes will be awarded in four divisions – the Adult Division is for those ages 18 and older (excluding high school students); Student Division I is for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade; Student Division II is for those in grades six through eight; and Student Division III includes those in grades nine through 12. Winning photos will be featured in the North East and South County Independent newspapers.
Richard Dunne, who died in 2007, was a lifelong photographer as well as a teacher at North Kingstown High School for nearly 40 years. Funds raised through this contest will be used to provide scholarships to future NKHS graduates who exemplify Dunne’s dedication to a well-rounded education.
Photographers this year are encouraged to submit their entries electronically through the fund’s website, www.RBDscholarship.org. Digital copies should be 300 dpi and at least 4x6 inches.
Hard copies will also be accepted. To do so, entrants must submit a 5x7 print along with an entry card stating their name, age/grade, address and phone number as well as the title of the photo and where it was taken. Digital alterations are not allowed. Entries should be sent to Richard B. Dunne Jr. Memorial Scholarship, 3 Stone Gate Drive, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
In the adult division, there is a $10 fee for a photographer’s first entry and $5 for each additional photograph. Those entering the student divisions pay a flat fee of $10 for up to five entries.
Since its founding in 2001 to celebrate the opening of North Kingstown’s new high school, the fund has awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships. This year the fund – originally named the New North Kingstown High School Scholarship – gave $1,000 scholarships to six deserving graduates who are continuing their education at four-year, two-year, and vocational/technical institutions.
